On Saturday, March the 10th, 2012, from 7:30 A.M. - 11:30 A.M., the Men’s Fellowship group will be hosting their eigth, ever-popular “grand daddy of all,” Pancake Brunches of this 39th year that run through April 21 in the Englewood United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, 700 E. Dearborn.

The traditional every-other-Saturday brunch schedule is varied this year.  That is, brunches will be held on March 10, March 24, and then only a week later on March 31.  Due to Holy Week and Easter, the only remaining brunch for the season will be on April 21.

A $4.50 ticket ($2.00 for children) buys unlimited pancakes, an egg, sausage, orange juice, and a bottomless cup of coffee or tea.  Another change this year is that quiche and fresh fruit have been added to the menu as light and tasty substitutions to the egg and sausage menu option.

Over 10,000 tickets have been sold annually for these delightfully unique Saturday morning experiences.

Because the men have the service “down to a science”, the cheerful line that forms moves unusually fast.  Live music fills the air.  Shoppers find bargains at the extensive boutique of crafts made by the Women’s Creative Workshop.  The men help stock up cabinets with fresh pecans, cashews, grapefruit, and honey sales.

The Men’s Fellowship is a non-denomination group that meets every Monday morning from 8:00 A.M. - 9:00 A.M. for Prayer Breakfast.  Men in the community of all ages are encouraged to come share this yummy breakfast and upbeat fellowship, followed by a short but stimulating guest speaker’s message.

The men also implement a paper and aluminum recycling project.  The public is encouraged to drop off newspapers and scrap aluminum at the collection bins just off the church parking lot next to the Helping Hand building.

Proceeds from Men’s Fellowship Pancake Brunches and other service projects help fuel Englewood United Methodist Church’s mission to be a “servant church” to the local community.  Annual direct gifts are made to support such organizations as the Florida United Methodist Children’s Home, Englewood Helping Hand, DASH, and Meals on Wheels.  The Fellowship itself awards scholarships for post-secondary education that totalled $21,600 to local youth last year.

According to Brunch chairman, Peter Patrick, “Men and women are needed and encouraged to volunteer to work on the Brunches.  It’s a rewarding, fun experience!”
